EnMAP Launch
The EnMAP satellite was successfully launched today atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Lift-off occurred on 1st April 2022 at 18:24 CEST from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
Heavens Above staff were on site at the German Space Operations Center (DLR GSOC) to support groundstation teams, who were using our Satmon software to monitor the new satellite's telemetry feed.
EnMAP (Environmental Mapping and Analysis Program) carries a hyperspectral camera instrument, which will take images of the Earth at many wavelengths, in order to detect changes the environment. Post-processing of the image data will help scientists to infer changes in crop growth, nutrient supply and water quality.
